WELLFLEET, MA— After its recent move to a temporary trailer adjacent to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Wellfleet, the Wellfleet Food Pantry needed electricity for lights, heating and cooling. Lower Cape Electric stepped up.  In cooperation with Jeremy Young of J.F. Young Co., who donated the necessary tree trimming, Lower Cape connected the trailer to electrical service on Route 6. The work took several hours and involved setting up a temporary service tripod, connecting that to power from the pole on the highway, and limb removal from pine and honey locust trees that blocked access.

Lower Cape Electric’s invoice listed “Build, wire and install an overhead electrical service and feed new Wellfleet Food Pantry Trailer at Our Lady of Lourdes.”

The bill?  Zero.

Jeremy Young, Inc. didn’t bill, either.

Lower Cape Electric’s owners, William and Keith Reeves, included a note on the invoice.  It read, in part: “…we are proud to be able to help keep you guys running. Please accept our work as a donation and a thank-you for your community service.”

Jeremy Young added, “We got the call from Lower Cape Electric that they needed us, and we came right away.  We were happy to help.”

Sandy Galvin, President of the Wellfleet Food Pantry Board, expressed her thanks. “We keep many fresh and frozen foods in refrigerators and freezers. The generosity of Lower Cape Electric and Jeremy Young gave us access to electricity at no cost.  Our operating expenses have increased substantially since our relocation, and these donations are so very welcome and appreciated.”

About the Wellfleet Food Pantry

The Wellfleet Food Pantry is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has been serving the community since 1999. Providing nutritious food, fish, meats, personal care and household items, it functions as a mini grocery store for residents who need assistance to help ease financial burdens in difficult times. Affiliated with the Lower Cape Outreach Council, and staffed entirely by volunteers, the Pantry relies solely on community support and donations to ensure that those families and individuals can put food on their tables.
