On Monday December 9 the Wellfleet Food Pantry opened its doors for the first time at its new temporary site, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Route 6 in Wellfleet. Occupying a rented trailer in the church’s parking lot, the Pantry expects to remain in this location for up to two years or until a permanent Pantry building is built.
Shoppers had been informed of the new location, and all was business as usual. Despite a steady late afternoon rainfall, shoppers filled their bags and boxes, and Pantry volunteers reported a smooth first day.
“Our shoppers are resilient and flexible, our volunteers are dedicated, and we had terrific support from the Town, which made this transition not only possible, but as smooth as it could be. We want to express our appreciation to everyone who helped out,” said Sandy Galvin, president of the Pantry’s board of directors. “And we remain so very grateful to Our Lady of Lourdes. They have made it possible for us to assure that service will remain uninterrupted through this period of transition, Now, moving forward with a new building is our number one priority.”
