Our Lady of Lourdes Church Offers Space
The Wellfleet Food Pantry is delighted to announce that Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Route 6 in Wellfleet has generously offered use of a section of church parking lot for the placement of the Pantry’s trailer, which will serve as its new temporary “store”.
The Pantry has outgrown its current site, and with a mandatory relocation date of December 31, 2024 fast approaching, the process of acquiring and siting the trailer at the church will begin
right away. Immediate tasks include gaining access to electrical power from poles on the highway and determining how best to place the trailer to minimize impact on available church parking.
Jen Elsensohn, President of the Parish Council, said, “Our Lady of Lourdes is delighted to be able to host the pantry. We wholeheartedly support their mission, as feeding the hungry is one of our most foundational missions as well.”
Sandy Galvin, president of the Pantry’s board of directors, expressed the board’s appreciation for the church’s decision. “We are so very grateful to Our Lady of Lourdes for this most generous support. They have made it possible for us to reassure our shoppers that service will remain uninterrupted through this period of transition for the Pantry.”
The Pantry is in discussions with the Town of Wellfleet to lease town-owned land to build a permanent home on a site adjacent to the Adult Community Center (ACC). This is an incredible opportunity for greater collaboration between the WFP and the town. Once a permanent site has been secured the Pantry will undertake a capital campaign to raise construction funds. To accomplish this formidable task, Pantry needs to raise an estimated $1.5 million by April 2026. Contributions to the Wellfleet Food Pantry’s Building Fund will be gladly accepted.
