Community support provides four times the required amount
WELLFLEET, MA … Today the Wellfleet Food Pantry announced that it has raised $200 thousand from dozens of donations in response to a challenge grant of $50 thousand offered by a generous private benefactor. The challenge, intended to spur additional donations to support the Pantry’s Phase 2 fundraising for its new building, was announced at the Pantry’s May 16 open house at the Wellfleet Adult Community Center.
The deadline for the match was July 1.
Sandy Galvin, President of the Pantry, expressed her delight, “We are extremely grateful to all our supporters. This is a huge leap forward for our Phase 2 fundraising. It will help supply the equipment and materials we need to make the Pantry fully functional, comfortable and welcoming.” She added, “The challenge was intended to help us kick off Phase 2, and thanks to so many who responded, we are now well on our way to equipping our new site.”
Granted a 99-year lease through a competitive process offered by the Town of Wellfleet, the Pantry expects to begin construction in September of a new Pantry building adjacent to the Town’s Adult Community Center. Fundraising efforts have secured over $1.3 million for the construction of the building, and Phase 2 is intended to equip the interior and provide key utility support.
